Sobre el libro
The text opens with the young man Kishimoto Sutekichi picking up a cherry and savoring its fairy-tale-like mood, then follows him on a slope where he unexpectedly meets Shigeko, an older woman he has spent over a year deliberately avoiding. The narration lingers on small moments—hiding by a roadside mulberry tree, listening to the rickshaw wheels pass behind him—and reads as quiet and restrained, tinged with the mingled happiness and bewilderment of youth.
Sobre el autor
Tōson Shimazaki (25 March 1872 – 22 August 1943), the pen-name of Haruki Shimazaki, was a Japanese writer active in the Meiji, Taishō and early Shōwa periods. He began his career as a Romantic poet but went on to establish himself as a major proponent of Japanese Naturalism, and his most popular work is the historical novel Before the Dawn (1929–1935), about the fall of the Tokugawa shogunate.
